A Letter from our Director: COVID-19 Practice Update June 2020

Throughout this coronavirus pandemic, there has been a tremendous need for adaptability on all fronts. We’re very grateful for the ways you have graciously adapted to virtual sessions and we do not take lightly how it has impacted your experience of safe spaces, of counseling, and of your experience at Terra.

You may be wondering what the impacts of this pandemic will have on our summer schedule at Terra. There has been a shift in recent weeks towards reopening businesses safely and we have encountered a full range of perspectives from clients, colleagues, and friends.  When Phase 1 began earlier in May we looked at the risk factors for restarting in-person sessions in light of the information the CDC, the State of Maryland, and the City of Baltimore provided.  The two greatest risk factors for spreading COVID19, as currently evaluated, are time and proximity.  In-person appointments create challenges for both of these variables.

Simultaneously, the Mayor of Baltimore has canceled large gatherings through the summer, and outdoor activities are just beginning to be approved state and city-wide. The framework for the Governor’s three-phase approach projected Phase 2 beginning in September 2020 as this has been moved up recently we are closely monitoring these developments in Maryland and Baltimore City which recently announced the beginning of Phase 1.

Taking into consideration all of these variables, the safety of our staff, and your safety, we plan to continue telehealth only sessions through August 31st.  We will be re-evaluating this date throughout the summer and will be working rigorously to create a safe environment for all upon the resumption of in-person sessions.   With the uncertainties presented due to the pandemic, our goal is to create an environment of stability and consistency for you so we do not have to toggle between in-person and virtual meetings.  We want to be able to resume in-person sessions as quickly as is safely possible and to keep it consistently in-person.

Thank you for your continued patience and your commitment to the deep work during these tumultuous times.  We are in awe of your strength and resilience and grateful for your perseverance.  We have been meeting and discussing creative options for improving telehealth and the level of connection we know is needed to support you best.

Please feel free to reach out to the office or your therapist if you have any questions, concerns, or emergent needs.  We long to see you in the office again soon!

With care,

Amy Price, MA, LCPC
